Steven Creek teaches Strategic Management for the Walker College of Business undergraduate, MBA, and online MBA programs. He joined the Department of Management in 2018. Prior to academia Steven spent ten years working in industry, specifically the tax-credit division of Automatic Data Processing (ADP).

Steven’s research primarily examines how entrepreneurs can secure the necessary capital to start new businesses, particularly through crowdfunding. His research has been published in many leading journals such as the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Venturing Insights, Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Group and Organization Management, California Management Review, International Journal of Emerging Markets, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, among others. Steven has been fortunate to give research presentations around the world, including talks in China, England, France, Germany, Norway, New Zealand, Pakistan, and several cities domestically.

Steven serves in a variety of capacities at Appalachian State and beyond. At ASU, he is a member of the Faculty Senate, chairing the Athletics Committee and serving on the Executive Committee. He serves on the International Programs Committee and is an ex-officio member of the University Athletics Council. He is a reviewer for several journals, including Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and the International Journal of Emerging Markets. Steven also served on the board of directors for a local prison ministry, ChristSong Ministries, from 2018 to 2024.

In 2020, Steven started a (very) small business called High Country Maple Syrup. The company has since grown into one of top producers of maple syrup in the region. 10% of all profits go to the Association of Student of Entrepreneurs, who have helped with various aspects of the business including marketing, finance, sales, and operations.

Steven lives in Boone with his wife Irina and two sons, Peter and Andrew.
